| Description |
An active volcano draped with virgin forest, this attractive park lies 12 miles northeast of Liberia and at the end of a very rough road. Though it's a tough hike to the top, one can see Lake Nicaraguafrom the summit on a clear day, and the volcano's slopes are covered with both wet and dry forests, which contain hidden lakes, rivers and waterfalls and an abundance of wildlife. The park also has small geysers, bubbling mud pots and mineral hot springs. |
| Importance |
It is probably the largest area where the Guaria Morada, the orchid which is Costa Rica's national flower, can still be found in the wild. |
