| Fauna |
Most common species: paca, Baird's tapir, white-nosed coati, sloth, jaguar, deer. Bird species: Parrots, parakeets, resplendent quetzal. Reptiles: Snakes such as parrot snake, fer-de-lance and boa constrictor. |

Lower montane rainforest and lower montane wet forest, with species such as the mountain guayabo, freijo, rosewood, chicle tree, balsa, etc. |
| Description |
Costa Rica's Arenal National Park has the most active volcano in the country. It was believed to be dormant until a major eruption in 1968. The park is next to the country's largest hydroelectric project, the Arenal Lake Dam.
Primary cloud forest and rainforest cover the park, which abounds with flora and fauna species in multiple life zones, innumerable rivers, waterfalls and thermal hot springs |

Important replenishment region, as the waters drained into the Arenal Lake are used for the production of electricity and fish farming projects |
