Alajuela Province in the Central Volcanic Mountain Range. The national park has: 5,600 Ha. |
| Fauna |
70 Bird species: sooty robin, black guan, resplendent quetzal, green toucan, flame-throated warbler and hummingbirds. With the exception of birds the rest of the fauna is relatively sparse. |
| Flora |
Six habitat types found in the park, which include two kinds of cloud forest, secondary forests, stunted forests, an arrayan area and areas with little or no vegetation. |
| Description |
Poas is an active volcano with frequent small geyser and lava eruptions. The last major eruptions were from 1952-54. The visitors center has interactive educational presentations and activities. |
| Importance |
Protects various types of forests containing abundant epiphytes and parasitic plants growing on the tree trunks as well as the volcano and surroundings. |
