La Paz is a beautiful location nestled at the foot
of the Poas Volcano in Costa Rica. This is prime
coffee country and you ’ll be delighted by the
rolling hills blanketed with green pastures and
the glossy leafed coffee plants that reflect the
sunlight. Near the town of Vara Blanca, La Paz is
a very short distance from many different sights
and spots such as the Fraijanes park, a public
park where ticos go to picnic, hike and enjoy a
day out in the fresh air, the active Poas Volcano
where you can view one of the largest volcano
craters on Earth and walk up to a turquoise blue
lake that formed on Poas ’ twin crater. The Rio
Sarapiquí Valley is also close by: if you are
heading this way you should definitely remember your camera and lots of extra film
as you are entering prime birdwatching country. You may also pass by plantations
covered with black netting: this is where strawberries and ferns are grown for national
and international consumption. Visiting this region is ideal when you are coming into
the country or before you leave to unwind. Many couples stay in this area and
celebrate their weddings or honeymoons in the romantic ambiance that can be found
in La Paz Vara Blanca and Montana Azul.
The climate around La Paz Costa Rica and the
Poas Volcano is varied: The different slopes are
under different weather influences so be
prepared from everything from sunny days with
warm weather to cold misty days where the
clouds hang low and the sun is a hazy influence.
We recommend for you to dress in light layers
whenever you come to this area, and as a
matter of fact, to Costa Rica. Especially when
visiting Vara Blanca and La Paz, also remember
to carry a light rain jacket and a small collapsible
umbrella: if it rains, you ll be able to enjoy the
views and nature while still keeping comfortably
dry. The nature and wildlife changes as you
climb up the mountain getting closer to the top
of the volcano: from coffee bushes to strawberry
and fern farms to pastures and evergreen forests to finally the rainforest at he top of
the volcano with huge elephant leaf trees and shrubs that will take you back into
prehistoric times. |
