Tambor Beach
Tambor is a combination of calm pacific waters, uninhabited islands you can visit with unspoiled white and pink coral sand beaches and friendly people. In the area there is excellent year round fishing and snorkeling, especially near Tortuga Island, one of Costa Rica ’s treasures. You can also hike or ride on horseback along the beaches, or to waterfalls and viewpoints in the back country to observe wildlife. You will also find great seafood restaurants where you can enjoy a good meal. Other things to enjoy are places such as the serpentarium, golf courses, casinos located in some of the hotels, tropical gardens and the butterfly -farm.

Tambor is located in the Bahia Ballena (Whale Bay) on the Central Eastern coast of the Peninsula de Nicoya in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Tambor is surrounded by forested hills belonging to the biological corridor running through Costa Rica. It is a calm grayish black sand bay beach that is safe for swimming. You can drive from San Jose to Puntarenas, and then on the ferry to Paquera, to continue on the well traveled road to Cobano. You can also fly from San Jose on scheduled planes or from elsewhere in Costa Rica on a charter flight, both of which would land on the grassy airstrip near the Tambor hotels 20 minutes after departure. Because of the quiet waters of the bay, it is a great place for families with children, and many have established themselves in the area taking advantage of the real estate options. Playa Tambor provides a wealth of outdoor activities like hiking, canopy tours, water sports, fishing and more. For travelers, Tambor offers a variety of lodging options from luxurious all -inclusive hotels to small, but welcoming relaxing cabin rentals.

Playa Tambor Beach is protected by Bahía Ballena (Whale Bay), the largest bay on the southern peninsula coastline. Ballena Bay traverses a scenic mosaic of great contrasts from the blue coastal waters beneath swooping and diving seabirds, to the lush littoral woodland, to the sere grasses of the hills thick with corozo palms, to the green pastures of the little alluvial valleys. The beach begins about 8 km southwest of the village of Tambor - they're divided by a narrow and wad able estuary of the Río Pánica that connects to the Pochote Beach

The calm beach is safe for swimming, and whales are sometimes sighted in the bay. The best route to Playa Pochote is to take the Paquera ferry-boat from Puntarenas and from there drive to Playa Pochote. The beach is set amid hills of volcanic origin dotted with trees, rock platforms and the River Pánica, which separates it from Pochote Beach.
